The inspiration for Elizabeth Taggart figure paintings with their surreal and ambiguous sophistication springs directly from her childhood in Donaghadee, the small seaside resort where she was born.
Very much an Irish painter she has always maintained strong links with her native land and considers Ireland, Irish painting and the landscape of her childhood to be her primary influence.
Widely traveled, Elizabeth has made prolonged visits to Mexico, India and Portugal where the riotous mixture of religious and pagan imagery perfectly serve her particular gift to portray the finely observed in an almost poetic or dreamlike manner.
The churches, temples and landscapes of these travels also have a radiant place in her work
